Hui Wen joined the community sector in a special school at the end of 2020. She was keen to explore care for children with physical disabilities outside of a hospital setting.
After completing her Masters of Science (MSc) in Advanced Physiotherapy: Paediatrics in 2022, Hui Wen continued working with students with multiple disabilities. Apart from working with students in individual and group settings, she also initiated and conducted a yearly Sports Day event in collaboration with the Physical Education (PE) teachers.
The 6 F words of childhood disability - Function, Friends, Fun, Fitness, Family and Future are what inspires Hui Wen as she continues to support clients under her care.
Hui Wen graduated from SIT-TCD (Singapore Institute of Technology - Trinity College Dublin) in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy). Upon graduation, she joined National University Hospital (NUH) Singapore where she worked with the adult population for almost 2 years before she joined the paediatric workgroup.
During her time in NUH, Hui Wen worked with a range of paediatric clients, from premature babies to adolescents with sports injuries. She was also involved in various multidisciplinary clinics such as adolescent weight management and neuromuscular disease clinics.
With a team of neurologists and an occupational therapist, Hui Wen visited several leading rehabilitation centres in Canada in 2016. Upon return, Hui Wen worked with her team to develop new service initiatives, including hypertonia clinic, concussion rehabilitation as well as constraint induced movement therapy 2-week holiday programme to support paediatric neurorehabilitation in NUH.
