Sophia is now the Physiotherapy clinical oversight for the Healthy Strides Foundation, Healthy Strides Malaysia and now the oversight for Healthy Strides Singapore.
She brings her wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role, leading a team of therapists in 3 countries.
Between taking time off to have two children Sophia has worked at The Healthy Strides Foundation. As a mother and with a personal experience of disability, Sophia is newly inspired to provide children with evidence-based, innovative rehabilitation to promote their participation and quality of life.
She firmly believes in the importance of therapy not taking children away from the most important things in their lives - family, friends and fun - and this is why she is passionate about providing only the most effective and evidence based therapy so that children can have more time to do their jobs - PLAY!
Sophia plays a leadership role within the team to ensure all team members are always providing consistent and effective therapy interventions. She assists new team members to build on their clinical skills and ensures goal setting and individual programs are always updated, individualised and aiming for participation and quality of life.
Sophia commenced working at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children (now Perth Children’s Hospital) as a Senior Physiotherapist in the iRehab Program. Here she provided intensive rehabilitation for children with sub-acute or long term, acquired or congenital neurological conditions.
Sophia led the team in coordinating the management of children who had undergone single event, multi-level orthopaedic surgery. She also provided locomotor training and functional electrical stimulation as part of her treatment programs.
Sophia moved back to Perth and started her career in paediatrics working at Ability Centre (formerly The Centre for Cerebral Palsy). It was here that Sophia realised her passion for working with children and in particular in providing rehabilitation for children with neurological conditions.
Sophia worked in the School Aged Program, Early Intervention Program and the Country Resource Program gaining a solid foundation of knowledge and clinical skills but also experience in the unique challenges that children and their families face daily in their homes and communities.
Sophia graduated from Curtin University of Technology with a Bachelor of Science: Physiotherapy in 2009. She started her career working in the WA Country Health Service as the sole public physiotherapist in the Western Wheatbelt.
Here she gained valuable experience and confidence providing physiotherapy services to a broad range of patients including musculoskeletal outpatients, inpatient ward-based work, paediatrics and disability services.
